Four ways to experience one of the most extraordinary celestial events of our lifetime
On August 2, 2027, travelers from around the world will arrive in Egypt to witness a rare total solar eclipse. Luxor, with its ancient temples, the Nile, and dramatic West Bank landscape, is one of the most exciting places to experience this extraordinary event.
But if you’re planning to come to Luxor for the Eclipse, there’s another question you’ll want to answer early:
Where should you stay?
Luxor is divided by the Nile into two very different experiences—the East Bank, where much of the city’s modern activity takes place, and the West Bank, surrounded by mountains, temples, tombs, and the ancient landscape of Thebes.
For the 2027 Eclipse, we’re exploring accommodation options in several locations so you can choose the experience that feels right for you.
And because this is expected to be an exceptionally busy event, location matters.
Our goal isn’t simply to find you a room. It’s to create a comfortable and well-organized Eclipse base camp from which you can experience Egypt while allowing flexibility for transportation, traffic, viewing arrangements, and safety considerations as the event approaches.
1. Nile View
Wake up where the Nile flows.
Imagine opening your curtains in the morning and seeing the Nile stretching across the landscape.
A Nile-view accommodation puts you close to one of the defining features of Luxor while keeping you connected to restaurants, shops, transportation, and the city’s attractions.
This option is ideal if you want your Eclipse trip to include the classic Luxor experience—the Nile, the city, and the ancient landscape all within reach.
Best for: Travelers who want scenery, convenience, and the energy of being near the river.
2. Mountain View: West Bank
Ancient landscape. Open skies. A different side of Luxor.
The West Bank offers an entirely different atmosphere.
Here, the dramatic mountains rise behind a landscape filled with ancient temples, tombs, villages, and archaeological sites. It can feel worlds away from the busier parts of the city.
For travelers who want their Eclipse experience to feel more connected to the ancient landscape of Luxor, the West Bank is an especially compelling option.
And there’s something magical about watching the sky change above those mountains.
Best for: Travelers looking for a quieter, more intimate setting surrounded by the ancient landscape.
3. Downtown: East Bank
Be in the middle of it all.
If you want restaurants, cafés, shops, markets, and the everyday energy of Luxor right outside your door, the downtown East Bank may be your perfect base.
You’ll be close to many of the city’s attractions and have plenty of opportunities to explore when you’re not preparing for the Eclipse.
This is the choice for travelers who don’t want to retreat from the action—they want to experience Luxor as a living city.
Best for: First-time visitors, explorers, and travelers who enjoy having everything close by.
4. Outside the City: East Bank
More space. More breathing room.
For some travelers, the idea of being in the center of a major international event isn’t appealing at all.
If you’d rather wake up away from the busiest areas, we’re also exploring accommodation options on the outskirts of the East Bank.
These locations may offer a more relaxed atmosphere and could provide additional flexibility for transportation and movement on Eclipse day, depending on local traffic patterns and access arrangements.
Sometimes, experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event is best done with a little space around you.
Best for: Travelers who value peace, privacy, and a little distance from the center of the city.
Which Luxor Experience Is Right for You?
There isn’t one perfect place to stay.
It depends on how you want to experience the Eclipse.
Do you want to wake up beside the Nile?
Do you want the mountains outside your window?
Do you want to walk out into the energy of downtown Luxor?
Or would you rather have a little more breathing room away from the busiest areas?
That’s why we’re creating several Eclipse Base Camp options rather than putting everyone in one location.
Our priority is to balance:
Comfort + Accessibility + Safety + Transportation + Experience
As August 2027 approaches, accommodations, transportation routes, traffic management, and official safety guidance may change. We’ll continue evaluating locations and arrangements so that our guests can have the best possible experience while remaining flexible to conditions on the ground.
Your Eclipse. Your Base Camp. Your Experience.
The 2027 Total Solar Eclipse isn’t an ordinary reason to visit Egypt.
For a few extraordinary minutes, the middle of the day will become night.
And you’ll have the opportunity to experience that moment from a place that has watched the heavens for thousands of years.
Whether you choose the Nile, the mountains, the heart of the city, or a quieter location beyond it…
Your journey begins with where you choose to stay.
